Documents
Documents in the sidebar holds three lists: Proposals, Contracts and Questionnaires. Each has a plus beside it on hover that starts a new one.
These are the live things, sent to real people and tracked. The reusable versions live under Templates.
The three, and what each is for
Proposals win the work. Your pricing, your agreement and your payment schedule on one page a client can accept in a single sitting.
Contracts agree the terms. A document the client signs.
Questionnaires gather the details. Questions you send and answers you get back.
Which one you need
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Quote for a job and get it agreed | A proposal |
| Get terms signed, nothing else | A contract |
| Ask a booked client for details | A questionnaire |
| Let strangers get in touch | An intake form |
A proposal can carry the contract inside it, which is better than sending two things separately. See Bundling it all together.
Documents and templates
Documents here are live: sent to a real person, tracked, signed, answered.
Templates are the reusable versions you build them from. A template is a starting point, not a live link. Once a document is created from one, editing the template doesn't change it.
That's worth knowing early, because it's the opposite of what most people assume.
Where documents come from
Not always by hand:
- A proposal creates a contract and an invoice when the client accepts, and a booking once they finish signing and paying
- A booking service can carry a contract, signed as part of booking
- A booking service can ask intake questions during booking, and send follow-up questionnaires on a schedule around it
- An inquiry offers Create proposal and Send contract in its three-dot menu
Chasing
Unanswered documents can be chased automatically, on a schedule you set. See Chasing documents.
